How It All Started
Carvills were established in Sussex in 1770 and for the last 250 years we have been helping people furnish their homes throughout Sussex and beyond.
Originally Lewes based we are now the longest established shop in Uckfield.
We have always been family owned and run, Mark, Richard and Heidi Arno the current owners are the third generation of their family to run Carvills.
We have a fantastic team working both in our shop and workshop. Our aim is to continue to offer you our customers an ever-changing mix of the best products for you and your home in the shop and the best input and advice when it comes to our services.
We pride ourselves on the variety of products and services we offer and look forward to the opportunity to work with you.
Lorna has worked her way up through the Carvills team, from being the most junior member of the shop team to then learning all aspects of what we do so that she has a broad knowledge of both the retail and design side of the business. This has culminated into her becoming our shop manager. In addition to these responsibilities for overseeing the day today running of the shop she has recently taken on the role of our chief buyer making her responsible for the selection and buying of new products for the shop.
Angela is our “go to” expert when it comes to fabrics, wallpapers and trimmings.
A combination of her vast product knowledge coupled with a flair and enthusiasm to make sure that our clients get the look that is right for them and their home means she is always in demand and is an invaluable part of our team.
Dani is involved in many aspects of the day to day running of the shop, her enthusiasm and people skills make her a key member of the team, she has also been instrumental in the setting up of our social media and online presence.
Heather started working at Carvills primarily within the shop and though still regularly called upon to be in the showroom her aptitude for organisation and strong customer service skills has meant that she has very much found her niche in taking on a more administrative role.
Debbie is primarily involved in shop sales, her “can do” attitude alongside a keen eye for detail and a flair for display means she is being involved more and more in the merchandising within the shop.
Shirley came to us with a background in retail and her warm and friendly personality combined with that experience meant that she immediately fitted in and has become a much valued member of the team
Meet The Team
Mark is Carvills managing director and has been part of the Carvills team for over 35 years, during that time he has been involved in all aspects of the business allowing him to build a knowledge of both the design and retail sides of the business.
For most of this time Mark and his wife Heidi together with his brother Richard have combined their energies to bring that enthusiasm and drive that comes from being part of a family business.
As well as involvement in the day to day running of Carvills his passion is helping clients in their own homes achieve the look that they are after, discussing and finding the right solution and treatment combining aesthetics with practicality never ceases to be an exciting challenge.
Outside the world of Carvills Mark loves to be outdoors ideally in the countryside up a hill or mountain and if that can be combined with being on some form of bicycle all the better. He is also an occasional runner and winter sports enthusiast.
Richard is a Director and has been with Carvills for 27 years. His lifelong joy of constructing and solving technical complications have led to him becoming a fastidious asset to the Carvills' team with an encyclopaedic knowledge of all aspects of furnishing installations. The main driver behind his passion is ensuring that all clients receive great customer service with a beautiful end result.
Richard is married to Kitty and they have a daughter, Robyn, and a springer spaniel called Hector. He is never happier than when on his mountain bike or doing up/improving his house
Heidi has been involved with Carvills for over 30 years.
Having met her now husband Mark (now Carvills MD) when she was studying art at the age of 17, a few years later she joined the Carvills Team as a junior shop assistant and a little after that was able to get creative with merchandising and window dressing.
Later she retrained as a seamstress and enjoyed running her own workshop making curtains and all manner of soft furnishings.
Several years on Heidi returned to Carvills to take on a new challenge as the Buyer, where she spent much time researching, analysing and travelling to trade shows and relished forecasting trends, monitoring performance and calculating stock levels.
In her current role as director she is very involved with the day to day running of the company in addition to which she has recently taken on overseeing matters relating to Carvills online presence.
When not in Uckfield Heidi can usually be found outdoors either running or cycling, preferably in the hills and can often be found afterwards at the local pub enjoying a large white!
