Jaques of London is the oldest sports and games manufacturer in the World. Since 1795 Jaques have been responsible for bringing families together with the invention of some of the World's most popular games, including Happy Families, Tiddledy-Winks, Ludo and Snakes & Ladders, as well as developing a large demand for Dominoes, Draughts and Backgammon.
They also re-invented the games of Chess and Table Tennis over 100 years ago. Their most notable achievement however was the introduction of Croquet to the World in 1851.
Interesting fact - During the Second World War Jaques craftsmen were recruited by MI9 to design and produce concealed tools to help prisoners of war escape. The games and equipment were specially crafted to conceal key elements of vital escape kits. Sandwiched between the cardboard of Ludo or Snakes & Ladders were maps, tightly furled within wooden handles precious currency was secreted, even the pegs of Quoits were hollowed out, into each one was inserted a tiny working compass.
Thanks to Jaques of London some 35,000 members of the British, Commonwealth and American forces managed to regain the Allied lines before the end of the war.
